On March 3, voters in the Cedar Ridge School District will see a ballot item regarding a redistribution of the district’s existing debt to build a new multi-purpose athletic facility.
This proposal does not increase taxes and does not raise the current millage rate.
The district’s millage would remain at 38.2, which is the current rate and the lowest in the county and lower than the state average. The ballot language refers only to extending the existing rate, not adding to it.
If approved, this extension would allow the district to restructure existing debt in a way that generates approximately $2,935,000 for new construction. The district may also use available funds from the building fund to complete the project.
The identified need is for a new multi-purpose athletic facility. This facility would not replace the current gym, but would provide additional space to better meet student and community needs.
The facility could be used for:
• Off-season basketball and volleyball
• Baseball and softball practice areas
• Physical education classes
• Summer athletic programs
• Pee Wee football
• Dance and cheer
• Little Dribblers
• High school football activities
• Archery
• Elementary recess during inclement weather
Summary:
The March 3 ballot item asks voters to consider a redistribution of existing debt, not a tax increase, to support construction of a multi-purpose athletic facility. The current millage rate would remain unchanged.
We hope this information is helpful as you review the ballot. Thank you for taking the time to stay informed and participate in the election.
