the kissing hand

Cedar Ridge School District is going above and beyond in their efforts to promote literacy, reaching children from birth all the way through 12th grade. With the help of the Arkansas SOAR Grant, every child who attends Cedar Ridge Early Childhood will get a free book to take home with them each month during the school year. For the building's August theme of "Taking Time for Hellos and Goodbyes," children enjoyed The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. Activities and conversation starters are sent home with students to help continue the learning at home.

The purpose of the Arkansas SOAR Grant is to advance literacy skills and development, including pre literacy skills, reading, and writing for all children from birth through grade 12.

Other projects made successful by the Arkansas SOAR Grant and the Cedar Ridge SOAR Committee include the Summer Book Bus, the Elementary Book Vending Machine, Reading Under the Lights, and more. Cedar Ridge will continue their literacy efforts throughout this school year.
